Description

The Koonadan area is part of the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people, the largest Aboriginal tribe in NSW. In the late 19th century the community was forced to move to a mission which makes this place alive with emotion.

Walking tours are provided by the local Disovery Rangers, and help to enlighten visitors on the tragic events that occurred at Koonadan. Although there are not many hiking trails, visitors are welcome to walk around the area and take in the sights. There is a picnic shelter which has signs that tell the story of the site and artwork by local Aboriginal people. Thanks to recent revegetation works around the area, there are many bush-tucker plant species at the site.
